1bit Coding Agent released
The engine is the foundation, and an agent is what makes it useful. The 1bit Coding Agent is out: a pi.dev-compatible CLI that runs inference natively on the NPU and ships as part of the 1bit MONSTER monorepo.
What it is
A coding agent that lives in the terminal can sit in the same scripts and workflows the rest of our tooling already uses. This one is compatible with pi.dev, so the interfaces it builds on are the ones people already know.
Seven commands
The whole agent surface is seven commands. We kept it there on purpose: an agent that needs a manual to operate is not an agent, it is an IDE with extra steps.
NPU-native inference
Inference is not bolted on from a cloud call. The agent runs natively on the NPU, on the same path the engine uses, so a coding agent on a laptop stays on the laptop.
What it carries
The release bundles the pieces an agent needs to be self-sufficient.
| Piece | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Package management | dependencies for agent code |
| Extensions | extra capabilities |
| Skills | reusable behaviors |
| Themes | interface variants |
| systemd service | runs when no terminal is open |
In the monorepo
The agent ships as part of the 1bit MONSTER monorepo, so agent, engine, models and benchmarks live in one place and one history. One repository to clone, one build, and a coding agent that runs where the engine already does.
